N’Golo Kante is said to be plotting a shock exit from Chelsea as he eyes a move to Real Madrid.
The Frenchman is one of the key men at Stamford Bridge, and has developed into one of the top midfielders in world football.
But having already won the Premier League twice, and with Chelsea not likely to challenge for major honours, Kante is now seeking a fresh challenge,
The Sun report that the 28-year-old would prefer a move to Madrid, where he could link up with fellow compatriot Zinedine Zidane.
Madrid are keen on acquiring Kante’s services, but only if they can agree on a suitable fee.
Zidane already has a number of options in central midfield, but Kante would be an improvement on their current crop.
The Madrid boss shares a good relationship with Kane, but with Brazilian Casemiro already at the club, president Florentino Perez is thought to be reluctant to spend big on a player in a similar position.
Bayern Munich and Juventus are two other potential suitors for the former Leicester man, but his heart is set on a switch to Spain.
Kante’s contract with the Blues still has a few years to run, and current Chelsea boss would rather not sell his midfield general.
Crucial to whether Kante stays at the club will be if Chelsea are able to add some quality to their squad after their transfer ban was lifted.
A number of players have been linked with a move to West London, including Borussia Dortmund talent Jadon Sancho, but the Blues face competition from Man City.
Reports suggest Pep Guardiola is preparing to launch a £90 million bid to land Sancho in January in a bid to pip Chelsea and other Premier League rivals to the 19-year-old’s signature.
Another player who looks set to depart Chelsea is winger Pedro, who has hinted at a return to Barcelona.
