Everton have confirmed that new £25million signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin has suffered a thigh injury which rules him out for at least two months.
Gbamin joined the Toffees from Mainz earlier this month and has made two appearances in the Premier League this season.
The Ivory Coast international missed Everton’s 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa last week.
‘Everton Football Club can confirm that Jean-Philippe Gbamin has sustained a tendon injury in his right quadriceps muscle, which will keep the midfielder out of action for at least eight weeks,’ Everton said in a statement.
‘The full timescale for the injury will be established following further investigations this week.
‘The club are in communication with leading experts around Europe to ensure the optimal outcome.’
It gives manager Marco Silva further selection problems in midfield with Gbamin intended to be a key player following the departure of Idrissa Gueye.
Silva hasn’t been able to play Fabian Delph due to injury, which leaves him reliant on Morgan Schneiderlin and Andre Gomes.
There will be competition for places when Everton travel to Lincoln City on Wednesday night for a second round Carabao Cup clash before hosting Wolves at Goodison Park on Sunday.
