De Ligt Discusses His Own Transfer Fee

Matthijs De Ligt is set to leave Ajax for one of Europe’s biggest clubs – but he says he will go for a lower price than the €75m paid by Barcelona for team-mate Frenkie De Jong.

“Will I be more expensive than Frenkie? I don’t think so, no,” De Ligt said during a Q&A interview on Ajax’s social networks.

“Normally teams spend more money on midfield players than defenders.

“I really don’t know.

“It’s up to Ajax – it’s not something that I decide. We shall see.

“I haven’t made a decision yet, so I don’t know [if I will stay],” he went on.

“I am only focussed on the last games of the season for now.

“We still have a lot to play for so let’s finish this season in a good way.”
