Bayern Munich centre back Niklas Sule has reportedly become the latest defender to be added to Manchester United’s summer transfer list.
United are likely to search for a new centre back for a second year in succession when the transfer window reopens after the conclusion of this season.
The failure to bring in a new defender last summer frustrated Jose Mourinho strongly and was the catalyst to the Portuguese’s breakdown with Ed Woodward.
The Red Devils were strongly linked to Jerome Boateng, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Diego Godin and Samuel Umtiti among others last year.
But this summer Sule is said to be heading up their wish list.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has, according to Sport1 , already made an enquiry to Bayern with the hope of jumping the queue for him.
The 23-year-old joined the Bavarian club from Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim in July 2017 and has played 78 times for the outfit.
He has played 43 times for Bayern and Germany after playing at last summer’s World Cup.
Sule replaced Boateng in the Bayern side and has become a vital cog in their title challenge.
Sule cost £21million two years ago and still has three years left on his contract which would likely see United have to pay top whack for him.
It is thought around £40m would be the starting point for negotiations.
Sule would likely springboard straight into United’s current starting XI – with Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones all having mixed seasons.
Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Matthijs de Ligt, Alderweireld and Maguire have also been touted for a move to Old Trafford this summer.
