Harry Kane has revealed he has a desire to leave Tottenham – for the NFL.
Striker Kane is viewed as one of the best front men currently playing in world football having netted 164 goals in 249 appearances for Spurs.
He has helped transform Mauricio Pochettino’s side from top six hopefuls to regular Champions League qualifiers – with the north London club registering a trio of top three finishes in the Premier League.
Kane has also been a trailblazer for England having helped the Three Lions to the World Cup semi-finals – having scored 22 times in 37 internationals.
But Kane has admitted that his long term future may lie in a different type of football.
The 25-year-old, whose current Tottenham contract lasts until 2024, is a massive fan of the NFL and counts quarter-back legend Tom Brady as one of his idols.
And in his quest to become a “great sportsman”, Kane has unveiled his plans to switch codes in the future.
“That’s real,” Kane told ESPN, “It is something that in 10 or 12 years I definitely want to try.”
“It goes back to that drive to be the best. Even if I download a game on my phone, can I be the best in the world?”
“If you play in the Premier League and the World Cup and you then play in the NFL, would you then be considered one of the greatest sportsmen ever?”
Spurs and the NFL are ready to engage in a close partnership in the next couple of years with matches set to be played at their new stadium.
Tottenham’s new 62,000 home will host two NFL matches as part of the 2019 season.
Kane and New England Patriot, and six-time Super Bowl winner, Brady enjoyed a similar career path as youngster, and the goal machine explained why he idolises the American.
“I started watching him on YouTube,” Kane said.
“We’ve had a similar path being doubted when we were younger. Maybe not being the best athletes as kids.
“It was quite a big inspiration. Not many people thought he’d become that good, or even play in the NFL, and he went on to become the best ever.
“At the time, it gave me a real boost to say, look, anything is possible. If you have that self-belief and that drive and that hunger, you can do it.”
