Jose Mourinho believes Zinedine Zidane’s return to Real Madrid is “perfect”.
The Frenchman is back in the Beranbeu dugout as the Los Blancos hierarchy turned to him after deciding to relieve Santiago Solari of his duties in the Spanish capital.
Mourinho was rumoured to be in pole position to return to Madrid himself after one of the most disastrous weeks in the club’s history.
Solari oversaw back-to-back Clasico defeats against Barcelona which saw them crash out of the Copa del Rey and fall 12 points behind in the title race.
A nightmare eight days was compounded by a 4-1 humiliation at the hands of Ajax in the Bernabeu which saw their bid for a fifth Champions League in six years ended.
Reports had suggested Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December, was in line for a sensational return, but Real instead turned to Zidane.
And when asked what he made of the decision, Mourinho repeatedly said “perfect”.
Zidane has already made his first signing since returning to the Spanish capital, with Eder Militao to arrive from Porto in the summer.
Real will pay £43million to the Portuguese side for the stopper, who has penned a six-year deal with Los Blancos.
