Manchester United dramatic comeback to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League has left Kylian Mbappe experiencing sleepless nights, the young striker has revealed.
The Frenchman was powerless to stop the Red Devils from Overturning a two-goal first leg deficit and the defeat is still having a major impact on the Parisians’ dressing room.
Since PSG’s Qatari backers began to heavily invest in the team, including the
£ 168 million move for Mbappe, the Champions League has been a major goal for a club which has still never even reached the semi-finals.
“I’m stunned, there are no words,” Mbappe told Telefoot. “I have not managed to sleep, I think it’s the same for everyone.
“It’s difficult, we had worked hard to get to that point and we were eliminated.
“We are disappointed. Football goes on, we will try to lift our heads to finish the rest of the season.”
Questions have been raised over whether PSG will lose star players who may begin to feel the club is not capable of matching its own ambition, but Mbappe won’t be leaving.
“I’ll be there, that’s for sure,” he said.
“With all the problems that this elimination will cause, it is unhelpful that my personal situation comes into it.
“It is here, clear and certain.
“Even though I know it’s complicated, especially after what just happened, I think there are a lot of people who doubt us, and who will doubt us in the future.
“But I still believe in this project, and I’m sure we’ll do something good at this club.”
Marcus Rashford’s late penalty on Wednesday night meant United joined Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid in knocking out PSG in recent years.
The nature of the defeat was a particularly tough blow for Mbappe to take given the priority the Champions League has been awarded at Parc des Princes.
He continued: “Honestly, it really was our goal.
“It was really why we worked every day, and when the fans support us, it’s for this competition.”Play VideoKimpembe consoled by Romelu Lukaku while Kylian Mbappe is left in tears after PSG’s devastating Champions League loss to Man Utd.
