Maurizio Sarri has admitted Gonzalo Higuain is out of shape and needs to improve his pace to become a regular goalscorer.
The striker has found the net just twice for Chelsea since he joined on a six-month loan deal from Juventus in January.
Higuain, who has received abuse from fans about his weight in the past, appeared to be in superb shape when he arrived at Chelsea.
But Sarri has urged the 31-year-old to work on his physical condition in order to improve.
He said: “I think the contribution was really very good in the last match – he was able to play with team-mates very well.
“I think that now he needs more acceleration. He is without the acceleration he had in Naples for example.
“So I think he needs to improve in the physical condition – especially the acceleration – and then he will be able to score of course.”
The striker claimed he joined the Blues because he was confident that Sarri could bring the best out of him.
When he played under the Italian at Napoli in 2015/16, he scored 38 times in just 42 games.
Higuain’s two strikes against Huddersfield are his only goals in a Blues shirt this season after seven appearances.
And Chelsea have time on their side after Juventus admitted that they have no intention of bring the Argentine back to Turin.
