Arsenal are preparing a £4million bid for Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli, according to Goal.
The 17-year-old winger is reportedly on the verge of obtaining an Italian passport and his increasing value could leave him out of reach of Brazilian giants Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Flamengo and Santos who are all vying for his signature.
The teenager, who had an unsuccessful trial at Manchester United in 2017 and also had a trial with Barcelona, has impressed for Ituano in the Campeonato Paulista, the Sao Paulo state championship.
He also bagged six goals in just four games and was one of the stars of the recent Copa Sao Paulo junior tournament.
However, they could have to increase their £4m bid, with Ituano said to value their prized asset closer to the £9m mark as they aim to cash in on the teenage prodigy.
Martinelli is understood to have been closely followed by English scouts having made an impact during his trial with United two years ago.
Obtaining an Italian passport would enable him to secure a work permit with few problems and open the door to his move to Europe.
Arsenal are set to be working to a tight budget in the summer having splashed the cash on the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lucas Torreira in the summer.
The only way they are likely to have more spending power is if they can offload big earner Mesut Ozil.
Martinelli is viewed as a potential star of the future, with the quick and skillful attacker comfortable playing out wide or behind the striker.
He is under contract until October 2022 and became Ituano’s youngster ever player as he made his debut aged just 16 last year.
