Zenit St Petersburg want £36m for Chelsea target Leandro Paredes.
Chelsea’s opening offer was £26.8million, as they look to replace the departing Cesc Fabregas.
Talks between the clubs opened last week though Chelsea fell short with their opening offer for the Argentine midfielder who returned for training on Monday after the Russian League winter break.
Paredes signed for Zenit from Roma for £24million in 2017.
Leandro Paredes has scored seven times in his 43 matches for Zenit St Petersburg. He’s also previously played for Empoli on loan, Roma, Chievo, and Boca Juniors.
He has nine caps for Argentina, and is believed to be keen on moving back to his home country to return to play for Boca Juniors. However, Chelsea are willing to offer him a contract worth £80,000-a-week.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are continuing talks with David Luiz over a new contract extension.
His agent Kia Joorabchian has reportedly told The Sun that both parties want him to stay at the club, and that he believes ‘something will be worked out.’
Chelsea’s current policy usually doesn’t grant more than a one year deal for any player over the age of 30. David Luiz is now 31.
Atletico Madrid have proposed a loan for Alvaro Morata, as they search for a new striker. Morata has been criticised for his performances at times at Chelsea. He’s scored five goals in his 16 Premier League matches so far this season.
