Monaco are growing hopeful of sealing a January transfer for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities under Maurizio Sarri and has started only one Premier League game this season.
His current deal with the club expires at the end of this season and Monaco boss Thierry Henry is keen to tempt his former Arsenal team-mate to France.
Monaco are 19th in Ligue 1 and desperately need points to flee the relegation zone.
Monaco are also considering a January move for Gary Cahill, while they have discussed Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny and the former Real Madrid defender Pepe as alternatives.
Last week, Sarri insisted Chelsea must sign a replacement for Fabregas if the 31-year-old Spaniard leaves the club.
The midfielder is out of tonight’s match against Southampton with a neck problem.
Sarri said: ‘In this position we have only Jorginho and Fabregas and it would be a very big problem to be without Cesc. I want him to stay.
‘If Cesc will go, then I think we need to buy another player, and it’s not easy because technically Cesc is a very important player, and it’s very difficult to find in the market a player with these characteristics.’
