Crystal Palace’s recent form is enough to worry supporters, but Wilfried Zaha has now caused further panic with a snap posted to Instagram.
Just days after a 3-2 defeat at West Ham, Palace’s talisman was on the treatment table at the club’s Beckenham training ground on Monday morning with a recovery boot on his foot.
Alongside the photo, the Ivory Coast forward wrote the words ‘back to the drawing board’, leaving fans worried about their star man’s current condition.
Zaha was already set to miss this Saturday’s game against Leicester through suspension after he picked up his fifth booking of the season late on against West Ham.
With the match in injury time and Palace 3-2 down, Zaha fouled Pablo Zabaleta and received a caution from match referee Anthony Taylor.
After Leicester there is a tough clash against Manchester City away, before what appears to be a must-win game against Cardiff on Boxing Day.
It is imperative for Palace fans that Zaha is back fighting fit for the busy Christmas period, given that the club haven’t picked up a single point without him since September 2016.
Roy Hodgson’s position has come under scrutiny in the past few weeks with the team having won just one of their last 11 league matches.
The team will also be without influential defender James Tomkins for the Foxes clash, after he too picked up his fifth booking of the season against his old side West Ham.
Frustratingly for fans, Tomkins’ booking came after the final whistle at the London Stadium, when the centre back confronted the referee in the tunnel to argue about the decision to award West Ham the free-kick which led to their second goal.
His absence on Saturday leaves the door open for Martin Kelly or the recently fit-again Scott Dann to partner Mamadou Sakho at the heart of the Palace defence.
