Liverpool have concerns over two of their star players after Virgil van Dijk followed Mo Salah in returning from international duty early.
Less than 24 hours after playing 90 minutes and scoring in Holland’s 3-0 win over Germany in the Nations League, the Dutch FA revealed that Van Dijk would not be travelling with the rest of the squad to Belgium for Tuesday’s friendly.
Van Dijk is still suffering from the rib injury he sustained in last month’s 3-0 win over Southampton and, after a consultation, it was decided that it would be unwise for him to play in Brussels.
Neither Van Dijk nor Salah have yet been ruled out of Liverpool’s next game — away to Huddersfield on Saturday.
The pair are expected to take fitness tests ahead of the match, which could take the Reds top of the Premier League if results go their way.
