Real Madrid Celebrate Gareth Bale’s Puskas Nomination For Overhead Kick Against Liverpool In Champions League Final… But Ignore Cristiano Ronaldo’s Effort

Real Madrid have rushed to congratulate Gareth Bale after his stunning overhead kick against Liverpool in last season’s Champions League final was nominated for this year’s Puskas award.

However, Los Blancos snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo after his own bicycle kick against Juventus was also recognised by Fifa.

The superstar completed a shock summer switch to Juve after the World Cup.

And it appears Real are keen to cut ties completely, despite his effort helping to book their place in the Champions League semi-final.

Bale broke Liverpool hearts in Kiev as his two goals secured Real’s third consecutive triumph in the competition.

But the Welshman’s man-of-the-match display was crowned by a mind-blowing overhead kick which put Los Blancos in the driving seat deep into the second half.

Bale will now be hoping to be recognised for the effort after he incredibly missed out on Uefa’s goal of the tournament earlier this year.

That award went to Ronaldo for his similar strike against Juventus, and it could be neck-and-neck again ahead of the results at the end of 2018.

Other goals to be nominated include Mohamed Salah’s strike for Liverpool in his derby debut against Everton.

Lionel Messi’s amazing effort for Argentina during the World Cup against Nigeria is also up for the award.
