Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel is out of the team’s 2018 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles next month in Victoria.
Mikel only returned to action for his Chinese club, Tiajin Teda last week after missing six league games due to injury.
Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr told KweseESPN.com “We spoke together. He is just coming back from injury and he needs to push his club commitments to get back in shape.”
“After injury he needs time to get fit again.”
Rohr is expected to name his squad for the crucial clash against Seychelles to be played in Victoria on September 7 on Friday.
The Super Eagles lost their first game in the qualifiers at home 2-0 to South Africa and need to beat Seychelles to keep their hopes of making a return to Africa’s showpiece event alive after failing to qualify for the last two editions.
