Zinedine Zidane has reportedly told pals that he expects to be offered the Manchester United job if Jose Mourinho is sacked.
Zidane is United’s top managerial target if Mourinho was to leave Old Trafford.
United have distanced themselves from speculation claiming that they are ready to sack Mourinho and are ready to back him with transfer funds in January.
But the Portuguese is claimed to have told friends he would have walked away from any club other than United.
And if Mourinho’s relationship was to deteriorate with United chief Ed Woodward then ZZ is primed to take the reins.
United have lined up the Frenchman in the same way they did with Mourinho when Louis van Gaal’s tenure was unravelling.
And the Mail report that ex-Real Madrid boss Zidane would take the job after deciding he wants to work in the Premier League.
Mourinho’s mood has darkened in recent weeks over the club’s failure to land a centre-back in the summer.
Woodward briefed that he felt Mourinho had spent enough cash in that position, with Mourinho splurging a combined £61million on Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.
