Real Madrid star Luka Modric has rubbished claims he wanted to join Inter Milan this summer.
Inter were keen to land the playmaker with reports in Italy the 32-year-old contacted the Serie A side to link up with fellow countrymen Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic and Sime Vrsaljko at the San Siro.
The Croatian World Cup runner-up described talk of a move to the Serie A giants as “the greatest nonsense in history.”
The European champions were so incensed they reported Inter to Fifa for an alleged illegal approach for Modric who has been shortlisted for Uefa men’s Player of the Year.
But the midfielder who moved to Madrid from Spurs six years ago responded to popular Instagram account Futbol Al Reves who repeated claims he wanted out of Spain.
However, last week Modric’s agent, Marko Naletilic, said he believed one day his man would move to Italy before hanging up his boots.
He told Tuttosport: “The fact Inter Milan tried to sign him and Modric took it into consideration shows the influence Cristiano Ronaldo is already having on Italian football.
“For whatever reason, Modric wants to be a star in Serie A with Inter.
“Let’s see. I believe that sooner or later Luka will play in Italy.
“Like a lot of Croatians his age, he grew up watching Italian football.”
