When Cristiano Ronaldo made his extraordinary switch from Real Madrid to Juventus, many marked August 4 as a date to watch.
Real take on Juventus in the International Champions Cup in Maryland, and it was hoped Ronaldo would be able to play in what promised to be an extraordinary reunion.
However Ronaldo did not line up at the FedExField, as he recovers from his World Cup exploits with Portugal earlier this summer.
Instead, Ronaldo trained in Turin with other players who featured in Russia, such as Rodrigo Bentancur – who played in the last 16 tie which saw his Uruguay team knock out Portugal.
Ronaldo has not travelled to the USA for any part of Juve’s summer tour, instead remaining in Italy to acclimatise to his new surroundings.
He looks to be at home already, smiling as he helped set up dummies for a training exercise.
Juventus trained amid the European heatwave, with Ronaldo splashing an entire bottle of water over his face as he went through the drills.
Fans waiting to see Ronaldo pull on a Juve shirt for real, instead of seeing it against Madrid in the USA, must wait until the start of the Serie A season.
On August 18, champions Juve travel to Chievo, where it is widely expected Ronaldo will take his bow in Italian football.
Juve have signed Ronaldo in the expectation that he can help them continue their domestic dominance – and the hope he can push them on to extend it into Europe.
