Pep Guardiola welcomed Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero and a number of World Cup stars back to Manchester City training following their post World Cup break.

The striking duo were afforded extra holiday after their exploits in Russia and were joined some big names who did not have to report for duty during the US tour.

Benjamin Mendy and Ederson were also back in action and Guardiola took training with the majority of his first team available for the first time this summer.

Ilkay Gundogan wore a protective mask, though it currently remains unclear what damage the German has done to his face.

Gundogan and the rest Gurdiola’s squad sweated through the 26-degree heat in Manchester as they performed a number of drills around giant yellow mannequins.

It seemed like the typical intensity of a Guardiola session was there and the World Cup stars hit the ground running.

One shooting drill had the players pass it before running through the obstacles and hitting a first time effort at goal.

No doubt City will terrorise Premier League defences this season, having scored a remarkable 106 goals in last season’s title-winning campaign.

The champions are preparing for their first competitive outing of the season, the Community Shield clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

Guardiola took a number of youngsters to the US where the team suffered defeats by Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool but overcame Bayern Munich.

He will be expected to field a much changed side against the Blues with the first silverware of the season on offer at Wembley.
