Leicester are weighing up a £15million move for Getafe central defender Djene.
The Togo defender was named in the La Liga team of the year last season as the Madrid club defied their modest status by finishing eighth.
New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has previously been linked with the 26-year-old, who has 31 caps.
Now Foxes boss Claude Puel is understood to be targeting the versatile star who usually plays in the centre but can also play at right-back.
Sevilla are also eager to poach Djene from their league rivals as they seek a replacement for French centre-back Clement Lenglet, who has joined Barcelona.
But the 2015 and 2016 Europa Cup winners have been put off by Getafe’s asking price.
Djene is under contract until 2023 and has a £32m release clause.
And reports from France claim Leicester can pip Sevilla to his signature by the end of this week.
Getafe paid Belgian club Sint Truiden £2.25m for Djene only last summer.
His value has since soared to at least £13m.
Born in Togo’s capital Lome, Djene began his senior career with Cameroon outfit Coton Sports before joining Spanish second-tier side Alcorcon in 2014.
he played 36 la Liga games for Getafe last term.
His full name is Dakonam Ortega Djene.
