Twitter users have blasted Germany for leaving Leroy Sane out of their World Cup squad in the wake of Sunday’s shock defeat to Mexico.
The current holders were beaten 1-0 by an impressive side led by West Ham’s Javier Hernandez and looked bereft of ideas throughout the 90 minutes.
One man who could have made a difference is Manchester City star and PFA Young Player of the Year Sane.
But he was controversially omitted by Joachim Low, with the boss plumping for Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt instead.
And Twitter users feel Germany got exactly what they deserved for leaving Sane at home, with one smugly writing: “How does that decision to not take Leroy Sane to the World Cup look now?”
Another said: “That’s what Germany gets for not taking Leroy Sane!!”
A user wondered: “Only if Leroy Sane was there for Germany today…”
Reflecting on Brandt’s performance, it was added: “Julian Brandt was decent when he came on but Leroy Sane spent the whole season breaking those kind of defences.”
One user was just puzzled altogether, exclaiming: “Leaving Leroy Sane behind was insane.”
Another said: “That’s what happens when you drop Leroy Sane. Germany well beaten.”
They deserve that, the kid was amazing the season past
