The race to be the most noticeable brand at the World Cup is on after adidas began their usual war with Nike by releasing a star-studded advert including the biggest names in the sport.
The German sportswear giant took advantage of their myriad sponsorship deals with football stars by inviting Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to appear alongside Mohamed Salah, Paul Pogba, Luis Suarez and David Beckham to name but a few.
Mesut Ozil, Dele Alli, Gabriel Jesus, Jesse Lingard, Javier Hernandez, David de Gea and Roberto Firmino also feature briefly alongside Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho, who were acting as managers in the advert’s cage match.
During the advert, women’s freestyler Caitlyn Schrepfer shows England’s Lingard a clean set of heels before combining with Salah and teeing up Alli to hit a sumptuous volley into the net.
Pogba, who has had to absorb intense criticism from the French media recently, appears to play the biggest role as he is given the task of controlling the official World Cup ball while wearing the company’s new Predator Tango 18+ Street trainers.
Although he may be in poor form on the pitch, he displays breathtaking control with the Telstar football, which despite its retro look boasts a state-of-the-art thermal bond technology which gives it a seamless surface for pinpoint accuracy and low water absorption.
The 90-second ‘Create the Answer’ advert is not just limited to footballers.
It also features Pharrell Williams, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, NFL player Von Miller, NBA’s Damian Lillard, model Karlie Kloss and rappers A$AP Ferg and Stormzy.
Throughout the advert, A$AP Ferg repeats the phrase ‘creativity is the answer’. In total, 56 different ‘creators’ appear in the advert for what adidas claim to be their most personal campaign ever.
This summer’s World Cup begins on June 14 with Russia’s game against Saudi Arabia and culminates with the final on July 15.
