Injured Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has filmed himself back in training as he looks to prove his fitness to Argentina striker Jorge Sampaoli before he names his World Cup squad.
Aguero has not played for Pep Guardiola’s side since coming on for a brief cameo in their Champions League quarter-final second leg defeat against Liverpool.
He has scored 21 Premier League goals for runaway champions City this season but underwent an arthroscopy in mid-April to repair a knee problem.
The 29-year-old appears to be recovering well and posted videos of himself working out as he bids to return to full fitness.
Aguero could be seen testing the strength in his knee by balancing on a trampoline while lunging with a weight in his hand. He then worked on his power by doing a fast-paced step-up exercise while tied to a rope.
He then finished his workout by displaying his impeccable first touch by passing the ball off both feet to a coach while running back and forth still attached to the harness.
Guardiola revealed earlier this month that he expects Aguero to be fit for the showpiece tournament, which begins in Russia next month.
‘He will get there fine,’ the Spaniard said. ‘I can give you the latest news from doctor (Ramon) Cugat in Barcelona and it’s going perfectly.’
Aguero must prove he is fully fit and able to contribute to Argentina’s campaign with Sampaoli blessed with so many attacking options.
Juventus ace Paulo Dybala and Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, widely considered two of Europe’s best marksmen, were both overlooked for the previous squad for friendlies against Italy and Spain in March.
