David Luiz could be given an escape route to Napoli in the summer, should Rafa Benitez make a return to San Paolo as manager.
The Brazilian, 31, has barely featured for Chelsea this season after falling out of favour with Antonio Conte.
And, despite the Italian almost certainly leaving Stamford Bridge, Luiz could follow him out of the door to be reunited with another former Blues boss.
Benitez, who arguably got the best out of the former Paris Saint-Germain defender during his infamous six-month interim spell at Chelsea, is among the frontrunners to potentially replace Maurizio Sarri at Napoli in the summer.
The Serie A title hopefuls appear to have lost their chance to end their 28-year wait after losing 3-0 at Fiorentina over the weekend.
However, a failure to land the Scudetto will not make Sarri any less desirable — and he is one of the leading candidates to replace Conte at Chelsea.
Should he land the Stamford Bridge job, he could bring Kalidou Koulibaly with him, who has been a colossus for Napoli at the back this season.
And club president Aurelio Di Laurentiis has identified Luiz as a potential replacement.
Then, to complete the merry-go-round, Benitez, who managed Napoli from 2013 to 2015, winning a Coppa Italia, could make his return to San Paolo.
