Neymar has revealed he will find out on May 17 whether he will be ready to play in Brazil’s opening game at the World Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar is in a race against time to be fit for Brazil’s opening clash in Russia this summer after suffering a fractured foot.
He broke his metatarsal during PSG’s 3-0 victory over Marseille in February before undergoing an operation in Rio de Janeiro soon after.
Neymar attended an event in hometown Sao Paulo for Chinese electronic products company TCL on Tuesday night.
The forward was all smiles, appeared comfortable and even put weight on his massive protective boot – albeit with the help of crouches.
Neymar was happy to pose for plenty of pictures and answered questions in a Q&A – while dressed in a Nike t-shirt and a burgundy cap – before letting slip how his rehab is going.
“There isn’t an exact date yet. I have the last exam, if I’m not mistaken, I’m not sure, on May 17,” Neymar said at the event.
“I’ll be cleared to play. Then I’ll see, it depends on how things develop, it depends on my next exams. It has not been decided.
“I hope I won’t watch the World Cup on TV!
“I will have enough time to prepare. It’s evolving well. I will arrive better than I was before.”
The 26-year-old has since been recuperating in his plush six-bed mansion on a two-and-a-half acre plot on an upmarket gated estate called Portobello and as well as the helipad and jetty, boasts a sauna, massage room, a spa and heated jacuzzi along with an underground cellar with space for 3,000 bottles of wine.
Brazil open their World Cup campaign, desperate to put behind their semi-final horror against Germany on home soil four years ago, against Switzerland on June 17.
They then face Costa Rica and Serbia in an attempt to reach the knock out stages – where they will face either Germany, Mexico, Sweden or South Korea.
Meanwhile, France legend Christophe Dugarry has hit out at Neymar for not returning to support PSG in their title run-in.
“How can we call Neymar the leader of the team when he didn’t come back and share this moment with them? How is it possible that PSG can accept this? How can Neymar look his teammates in the eye again after behaving in this way?”
“He is spitting on the club. I think it’s barbaric. If he were at Barça, he would have returned without any problem. If I was a PSG player I’d be raging.
