The forward scored a late equaliser to salvage a point for Ernesto Valverde’s side.
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde revealed Messi was playing with an injury despite inspiring their late comeback against Sevilla on Saturday night.
Messi came off the bench in the second half and scored an equaliser one minute from the end to salvage a point and ensure Valverde’s side would maintain their unbeaten La Liga record.
Messi shared several photos of him with enjoying the day with his family on his Instagram page.
‘I had planned to bring on Messi anyway,’ Valverde told Movistar after the match at Sevilla.
‘He’s injured but he’s been inactive for a while and we thought it would be better for him to play to get some rhythm of competition.
‘He was decisive. We think he’ll be OK for Roma.’
Despite having to settle for a point, Barca are still very much on course to win the La Liga title with the closest team to them, Atletico Madrid, 12 points behind.
Valverde will still be hoping that Messi will fully recover from his minor problem with a hectic and important month coming up.
Barca face seven games in 22 days, including their two-legged Champions League quarter-final against Roma and the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla on April 21.
