Lionel Messi appears poised to feature in Argentina’s friendly against Spain on Tuesday night after rejoining training.
Barcelona icon Messi missed Friday’s 2-0 win over Italy in Manchester with a hamstring issue and then also sat out training the following day.
But he was back amongst it on Sunday as the Argentina squad were put through their paces at Real Madrid’s training base.
Messi’s absence against Italy left thousands of English fans at the Etihad Stadium disappointed.
Speaking before kick-off at the Etihad, he explained: ‘I have been suffering from this hamstring injury for some time.
‘I always want to play, but the road to the World Cup is still long.
We decided to wait for this game to rest but I’m optimistic about playing against Spain.’
