Everton are set to pounce on Jack Wilshere’s contract impasse with a lucrative move for the Arsenal midfielder.
The Goodison Park club will enter the race for the 26-year-old this summer if he cannot resolve his stand-off with the Gunners.
Everton are willing to offer Wilshere a big signing-on bonus – and a deal in-excess of the £80,000-per-week the Gunners are currently offering.
Wilshere wants to stay at Arsenal but does not want to accept the pay cut the club are currently offering.
Arsenal have so far made one contract offer to Wilshere – and so far have not made any indication that they are willing to put an improved one on the table.
Wilshere will become a free agent in the summer if he does not sign fresh terms and Everton are trying to manoeuvre themselves to the front of the queue.
Juventus and AC Milan are also keen, but Wilshere would prefer to stay in the Premier League.
Arsenal are facing a similar dilemma with Aaron Ramsey, who enters the final 12 months of his deal in the summer.
The Gunners are in talk with Ramsey but there is no resolution in sight. That means Arsenal may prefer selling Ramsey this summer rather than allow the Wales international to enter into the final year of his deal.
