Joseph Akpala continues his goal scoring form, bagging a goal and one assist in Oostende’s 3-2 defeat to Standard Liege in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker played a pivotal role as the hosts were 2-0 up in the first half but a second-half comeback from the visitors saw the table turn.
Akpala’s effort was not enough to secure a win for Oostende.
Fernando Canesin Matos opened the scoring for the home team in the 27th minute with an assist from the former Werder Bremen man who doubled the lead in the 45th minute.
Renaud Emond scored in the 50th minute to drag Standard Liege back in to the game.
Moussa Djenepo equalised for the visitors and Collins Fai netted the match-winning goal.
Akpala played for the full 90 minutes while his compatriot Uche Agbo played 15 minutes for the visitors after replacing Paul-Jose M’Poku.
The 31-year-old has now scored six goals in 27 league games this season.
