Barcelona’s first team squad have been completing their preparations for Sunday’s mouthwatering La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid.
Ernesto Valverde’s side took part in a light training session in the Barcelona sun on Saturday morning as they look to tighten their grip on the La Liga title at the expense of Atletico.
Defeat would see Atletico move to within two points of Lionel Messi and his team-mates while victory would make the Catalan side overwhelming favourites in the title race.
A busy week for Barcelona concludes on Sunday with their third La Liga contest in the space of eight days. They have already won 6-1 against Girona and been held to a 1-1 draw by Las Palmas over the last seven days.
The players trained on Saturday morning on the Tito Vilanova pitch at the club’s training base.
Messi and Philippe Coutinho took part in the session while Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez were also pictured among the group running through some final drills.
After the practice was complete, Valverde called on his club’s fans to make the atmosphere as hostile as possible for Diego Simeone’s Atletico in his pre-match press conference.
‘The game against Atletico is an attractive one. Both teams are strong and the three points are worth so much,’ he said.
‘We must give everything on the pitch to win this game.
‘We are sure the Camp Nou will respond due to the importance of the match. It’s guaranteed the fans will make noise.’
