Leicester remain unclear on when Riyad Mahrez will return to the fold as Claude Puel’s squad resume training on Tuesday.
The club are mediating with Mahrez and his agents in an effort to bring the Algerian back into contention for Claude Puel.
But sources believe Mahrez will continue to stay away such is his mental state following the collapse of his prospective transfer to Manchester City.
There are now doubts over whether the 26-year-old will even feature in Leicester’s next game, which comes against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad on Saturday.
The Algeria international has not reported for duty at Leicester since last Tuesday but club officials are taking a delicate approach and it is believed he might have been granted time away since deadline day. The PFA have offered assistance in the matter.
Mahrez could yet have a change of heart and show up at Belvoir Drive but speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Swansea, Puel gave an indication of the depth of feeling by admitting he did not know when the former Player of the Year would be back.
‘I expect nothing,’ said the Leicester manager. ‘The most important thing is not to think about one player but to think about my team and my squad.’
